The food stains on the front seats were the primary challenge on this car. Old stains -- especially oily or protein-based food residue -- bond into fabric fibres over time and resist surface cleaning entirely.
DC uses an alkaline fabric cleaner applied directly to the affected areas, worked into the fabric with a soft-bristle brush in circular motions. The cleaner breaks down the organic compounds in the stain -- the oils, the proteins -- and brings them to the surface where they can be extracted. An interior extraction machine then pulls the dissolved residue out of the fabric along with the cleaning solution, leaving the fabric dry rather than sodden.
The key word is extracted, not wiped. Wiping moves stain residue sideways through the fabric. Extraction pulls it out vertically. The difference in result is significant.
For the seat fabric on this i20, two rounds of treatment were needed on the worst areas. After extraction, the seats were left to dry fully before the next stage -- putting the cabin back together with damp seats is how odour problems develop, not how they're solved.
Cleaning removes the sources of odour. But the smell itself can persist in the air of the cabin even after the surfaces are clean. For the i20, an odour eliminator was applied -- not a fragrance masking product, but an enzymatic treatment that breaks down the organic compounds responsible for the smell.
The difference matters. A fragrance spray puts something on top of the smell. An enzymatic treatment destroys the molecules causing it. Within 24 hours of the treatment, the faint sour smell from the AC vents and the general interior odour were gone. The cabin smelled of nothing. Which is exactly what a clean car should smell like.
Step 6 -- Plastic and Trim Dressing
The final step was applying a UV-protective dressing to all the plastic and rubber surfaces in the cabin -- dashboard, door panels, trim pieces. Chennai's sunlight is harsh on interior plastics. Unprotected plastic fades from its original rich tone to a chalky, dusty grey over time. The dressing restores depth and protects against UV degradation without leaving the shiny, greasy finish that cheap interior sprays produce.
The finished i20 didn't look glossy or dressed-up. It looked factory-clean -- the way it would have looked on the showroom floor.
When the owner came to collect the car, he stood by the driver's door for a moment before getting in. Then he leaned in and smelled the interior.
"It smells like a new car."
That is the standard a proper deep clean should reach. Not fresher than before. Not better than it was last month. New car.
He also mentioned the dark patch under the driver's seat. He had been looking at it every time he got in for nearly two years and had started thinking about replacing the carpet. It was gone.
For a car used daily in Chennai conditions -- office commute, family use, regular highway drives -- a professional interior deep clean once every 6 to 12 months is the right interval. More frequently if there are children or pets in the car regularly, or if food and drinks are consumed in the car often.
Between professional cleans, the habits that preserve a clean interior are simple: remove floor mats and shake them weekly, vacuum the seats and footwells monthly, and address spills immediately rather than leaving them to set. A spill cleaned within the first hour comes out easily. The same spill left for two weeks needs professional extraction.
If your car is more than a year old and has never had a professional interior clean, the answer is almost certainly yes -- even if it doesn't look it. The visible surfaces tell a fraction of the story. The seat fabric, the carpet beneath the mats, the AC evaporator, the seat rail tracks -- these are the surfaces that carry the actual accumulation.
DC handles interior deep cleaning for all car types and sizes at our Maduravoyal studio. If your car also needs exterior protection after the interior is sorted -- a ceramic coating or graphene coating applied to freshly cleaned and corrected paint -- we can discuss that too. A clean interior and protected exterior is the full treatment your car deserves.
